Located in the middle of South America, Paraguay is a small country influenced by its surrounding neighbors that still manages to maintain its own charm. Asunción, the capital, has many sightseeing options - colonial areas, plazas & strolling along the river. While in the capital city visit Plaza de los Heroes with the Panteon Nacional de los Heroes, recognizable by its pink dome. Also stop in at Casa de la Independencia which houses relics dating back to 1811 and is where revolutionaries met in secret to plan their battle for independence. A short distance from the city center stands the oldest hotel (The Gran Hotel) in Asunción with a fine collection of furnishings, art, and amazing tropical gardens. A trip to Concepción should be on the itinerary too; a city which lies on the river in the northern part of the country. There are a few ways to get to Concepción, some more challenging than others, so taking the riverboat is your best bet!
