Creaciones Felicidad is a long-standing family business, drawing on decades of traditional art and craftsmanship. For years, the family designed and made the traditional shawls of indigenous women, heavy shawls with articulate embroidery and macramé. Later, they switched their focus-keeping the traditional indigenous designs and embroidery, but applying them to western style shawls. The result is an astonishingly fine blend of western form and indigenous artistry. The name of the group comes from the name of the lady of the family, Felisa, which literally means happiness. The family wanted to bring happiness through their business, both for themselves and for others. This is also the reason behind their signature flower design, when asked why so many of their designs involved flowers, with a grin they said the reason is that flowers make people happy. At the moment, the family employs three women at fair trade wages, and they hope to expand and spread the benefits of fair trade work.
