For thousands of years, weavings have been used as a language that expresses the deepest feeling of a culture. Bolivia is no exception to this tradition. The weavings of the Asociacion de Artesanos Andinos are handmade by the Quechua and Aymara peoples who live in the highlands of Bolivia at an altitude of 4.200 meters (about 13,650 ft). The Association is comprised of four weaving centers of Aramasi, Villa Pereira, Chuñu Chuñuni y Totora Pampa in the provinces of Arque and Tapacari in the Department of Cochabamba. The Association was originally created with the assistance of a weaving revival project begun in 1998 by the European Union. The Association became its own legal entity in December of 2004.

Hand-dyed sheep's wool is painstakingly woven by women in the Andean pueblos of Bolivia to create these decorative placements. Woven clothes with the same patterns, made in the same manner, have been discovered to be nearly 2500 years old. This weaving tradition has all but disappeared, making it impossible to find pieces of this quality and beauty anywhere else in the world. Thus, this set of two placemats is sure to stun.
