SPIRAL Foundation is composed of about 1000 Vietnamese and Nepalese artisans who maintain the crafts industry afloat with their traditions incorporated into each item. They are paid by hour and not by piece allowing them to make a sustainable living. All net proceeds from the handcraft sales are returned to Vietnam and Nepal to fund primary health care, medical and educational projects, giving to those involved in the production process a sense of pride that comes by helping and sustaining many others, in even greater need than themselves. All items are produced with a consciousness towards the environment. Discarded materials are often used for/or incorporated in our gift line. All items are produced with a consciousness towards the preservation and the revival of the local handicraft traditions.

This colorful Wastepaper Basket has been handcrafted in Nepal by artisans in the remote mountain villages of Lapa, Tipling and Shertung. It is made using discarded plastic wrappers from popular manufactured food products brought in from the cities. Recycling programs have been started in the villages to encourage the collection of non biodegradable trash and to educate about the importance of protecting the natural ecology. It can be a meaningful gift to anybody that understands the importance of recycling and knows how creative we can be by turning waste into something beautiful! This item comes in assorted colors and in silver. Net proceeds from the purchase of this gift fund primary healthcare and community education through Himalayan HealthCare. Since 2002 the sale of gift items produced at The SPIRAL Foundation Workshop in Kathmandu have helped fund the construction and the running costs of Ilam Clinic, Nepal.
