Close to one million Colombians live directly or indirectly from the arts & crafts industry. From this figure 350,000 are artisans which add to the national economy; 60% come from rural areas and indigenous communities. A large percentage of these artisans are women who struggle to provide for their family on a daily basis due to the poverty of Latin America. By producing arts & crafts these artisans are able to contribute to the economy and provide a sustainable living. Each piece of the unique La Chamba clay cookware is made by hand. Being made by hand enables the user to feel the lasting impressions of the artisans. This beautiful and functional pottery is made along the Magdalena River, an area that archaeologists have claimed to be the first place pottery was produced in the Americans according to their investigations. No need to try and find a serving dish for your party…from baking or cooking to serving all in one! Cooking with clay dishes also adds to subtle, earthy nuances that metal doesn’t give.
